We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Experience Designer with expertise in environmental graphics, wayfinding, and signage systems and who thrives on shaping how people connect with spaces to join our multidisciplinary design team. With direction from our Experience Lead, this role will focus on placemaking, brand activation, and wayfinding across a range of projects, from higher education and healthcare to corporate and civic environments. It will blend creativity and technical precision to deliver ADA-compliant, user-centered design solutions that shape how people experience the built environment.
• Full time hires would work out of our Raleigh office as part of our Experience Team approximately 40 hours/week. M-F
• For Contract/Freelance postings: This is a 3–6-month contract with flexible hours and the potential for ongoing project work.
Responsibilities:
• Design and document signage, wayfinding, and branded environmental graphics.
• Ensure all work meets ADA and accessibility standards.
• Work as part of a team led by our Experience Lead
• Collaborate closely with architects, interior designers, and consultants to deliver cohesive project outcomes.
• Contribute to all project phases from strategy and concept development to detailed documentation and implementation
• Conduct user research and building analysis to inform design decisions
• Participate in client meetings and site visits
• Ensure deliverables meet expectations for quality, scope, budget, and schedule
• Support in-house design and marketing as needed
Qualifications:
• Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field
• 2+ years of professional experience in placemaking, brand activation, and wayfinding
• Must be authorized to work in US
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and Microsoft 365
• Knowledge of ADA signage requirements, materials, and fabrication processes.
• Exceptional typography skills
• Strong sense of typography, layout, and technical detailing
• Has a positive, collaborative attitude and is adaptable to project needs
• Able to take direction while also contributing ideas and perspectives
• Able to set aside personal style to design what is right for the client
• Excellent organizational, communication, and project coordination skills
• Familiarity with 3D modeling software such as SketchUp, Rhino or related
• CAD/Revit or architectural workflows is a plus
Preferred Skills:
• Work on projects in higher education, healthcare, workplace, or civic environments
• Familiarity with fabrication methods, materials, and large-scale installations
• Experience with branding, placemaking, or storytelling in physical space
• Understanding of construction documents and architectural collaboration
• Familiarity with digital wayfinding or interactive signage
• Clear, proactive communicator who contributes to a positive, solution-oriented team dynami.
• Confident bringing big ideas, asking questions, and acknowledging mistakes as part of the creative process
