Meditation Mine | Open International Design Competition

Architecture
Allihies, Ireland
Honorable Mention Award

An entry for an international design competition this proposal calls to attention the forces of industrialization on the human condition. The proposed spa offers respite from the active population centers fueled by industries like the shuttered copper mine that once operated on this site in the 1700’s. The deserted mine tower is treated as a sculptural artifact around which sleeping accommodations, walking trails, a museum, dining, and other various retreat functions are organized in the landscape. Guests are provided a selection of places for meditation and reflection insulated from urban activity.
